Lance,
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Assuming your
current alternator, voltage regulator, cables, etc. are healthy, a
bigger, higher output alternator (which is what you would need to charge
more quickly) draws more power from the engine to drive, and that power
is not available to push the boat. Charging the batteries quickly is not
very good for them, anyway, as you end up putting a lot of heat into
them, which shortens their life. Most batteries don't like to be charged
above about 10 amps, so if your alternator is putting out enough to
handle the battery charging load plus whatever else you are running on
the boat, going bigger won't help you much. How long is it taking to
charge your batteries anyway?
