depends on how many hrs it has on it
as far as the Sailcomp, the J24 I race
on has one....it was flukey but it turned out
the unit was fine, it was a connection elsewhere
that was funky. I like the thing. It reacts quickly
to heading changes and has been low maintanence
and reliable. doesnt have the 2 facet face, of course.
but all in all I like the KVH sailcomp. in some ways, the
external power can be a blessing....it's the failure of
the Tacktick's internal power that has been the problem
as far as I can remember. Plus, with the Tacktick, you
have to take it below everytime you put the boat
away...I think that's annoying and in a blow, tryingf to m
mount the stupid thing is a pain...I've seen them almost
dropped overboard, and not seated properly, I've seen on
snap out of the mount and bounce off the deck and was
luckily grabbed before it went for a swim.
i dunno...it's all a matter of compromise (no pun intended)

What about the KVH Sailcomp? This one was recommended to me by the old
goat who regularly cleaned my clock. But he must have known what he was
doing as he consistently came in 1 or 2.
