Andy, The slides usually attach w/ a piece of appropriate sized webbing sewn
into the sail and /or boltrope ( waxed thread is used on smaller sails).
Sometimes, the bottom few slides (the # depends on your sail design, the top
one is usually just above the reef point) are not attached directly to the
sail but to a piece of line that is attached to the top and bottom "loose"
slide and "woven" thru the sail grommets so as to let the sail "relax" away
from the mast when the sail is lowered or reefed to give it room to work
with.
