I keep finding things done by previous owners that are ok (they work) but now I know the error in how they were done I wouldn't do it that way. I recently tracked down a leak.... The PO had made a penetration into the wet locker for a hose, sealed around the hose with silicone, when there is lots of rain or any slight obstruction to the drain then water can back up and leak past the failed silicone into the boat from the wet locker. Needless to say I have to fix this. But it has been this way for 10 years or more and I didn't realize the weakness in this installation. This booby trap has been waiting to sink my boat for years. A couple of surveyors have never made mention of it.
I suggest checking every penetration into the wet locker and making sure that there is no way water can enter your boat when it is unattended. Since I have a diesel, it's not imperative that I have one to clear out the fumes; I only use it to keep the heat down inside when running the engine. I seem to recall a discussion about replacing the blower with an industrial strength PC type fan. Something about the power consumption and quietness made it very appropriate for running on the boat. Any thoughts/comments on this idea? Bob Mann
