Just head to a computer repair shop. Tell them you are looking for a used 12
volt fan. They will probably hand you a dead power supply or PC housing and
tell you to do the extraction.

Ralph,
pictures would be fantastic! Where did you get the muffin fan, computer
parts store? I have seen a fan about 6" in diameter for $20 (I think).

I have an '85. The current housing is blue and looks like a small,
old-fashioned cannister vacuum.

Bob,

As usual, Your model may vary...
I replaced my old OEM blower with a Muffin Fan (similar to a computer
fan).
It's so quiet I forget it sometimes.

BUT,... I had to fabricate the housing ...TO.. hose fitting.
If I remember correctly I used the ends of the old blower's hose fitting
as a pattern and covered it in plastic film.
Then shaped and molded a square end with layers of Fiberglass and Epoxy to
fit closely the Muffin Fan shape
With a little trimming, the Muffing Fan sets inside the two square ends..
with the old blower ends clamped to the hoses

It was a little messy and I'm sure there is a better way to do it.. but
they've been working for 10 yeas with no problems.

Sorry I don't have pix of them. I'd be glad to take some in a few days if
necessary..

Hello,

I'm pretty sure the exhaust blower for my engine compartment has died.
Since I have a diesel, it's not imperative that I have one to clear out the
fumes; I only use it to keep the heat down inside when running the engine.
I seem to recall a discussion about replacing the blower with an industrial
strength PC type fan. Something about the power consumption and quietness
made it very appropriate for running on the boat.

Any thoughts/comments on this idea?
