it IS astounding!
2 things astound me in that video of Geant:
- the boat can withstand the loads put on the hulls (and akas) when they
crash down into those seas. It's amazing the whole
darn thing doesnt fold up like a house of cards.
- the grace with which Geant rides those seas...as violent as the motion
is, you expect it to be worse...or at
least, I did. At 1:26 thru 1:31 is pretty darn violent. But then you
look at the boat's re-entry at 2:00 minute- 2:03
and it's amazingly smooth...how far aloft do you reckon the thing's
starboard headstay is, 40 feet? 45?
I think having that tiny staysail jib and the 2 reefs moves the COE so
far aft, the threat of them
tripping over an ama is virtually eliminated.
Gotta take some major guts to sail that puppy like that, though.
