Wow, we have been dancing around that one, Steve. In all honesty, I dont remember ever seeing polars for the C27....but I have a notoriously bad memory.
One thing about polars, at least the ones for some boats, is that they are copyrighted and not for duplication unless a fee is paid...I dont know if that's true for the C27 or not (but I can name a bunch of boats for which is true!). Phil would know if they exist...also, it's possible that Carl S. had them on his website way back when...I can check with Carl. BACK to the "targets" discussion, here is Dave Ullman's take on using them, after he won the Melges 24 Worlds in 2007: "I'm a huge believer in sailing by the speedo and following my target numbers. Without the speedo you're going to sail around three- or four-tenths too slow all the time. Our target range is 5.8 to 6.0, so let's say I'm sailing along and my target at the moment is 5.8. If I'm sailing at 5.4, all I do is let the sheet out 2 inches and within 10 seconds I'll be sailing at 5.8 again. You couldn't possibly do that without a speedo. The key is you want to go as high as you can while keeping to that target range. The goal is to steer the least amount possible. Just make the boat go absolutely straight until you see a wave you can't get through. If you have to go around a wave, look for the flattest place in the area and sail through that." This (above) was taken off SW's website under an article: http://www.sailingworld.com/from-the-experts/winners-debriefs/dave-ullman-melges-24-worlds-52932.html I'll get back to ya after checking with Carl. tf > But again.... > > Anyone have any of these target speeds and/or polar charts available to > them?
