I like man of war spar varnish, which is easy to say for someone with zero
bright work. However if you look at the real beauties with tons of bright
work you may note it is all covered to protect it from the sun between
outings. 

 

My advice would be to make (buy) the covers first then redo the bright work.
That way you'll get many seasons before needing to do spot touchups on the
occasional oops. Or at least that's how it's worked out on my brother IP38.
