NISO Alternative Assessment Metrics (Altmetrics) Initiative:

In June 2013, NISO was awarded a Sloan Foundation grant to explore standards
and/or best practices related to a new suite of potential assessment metrics
such as social media references and potential assessment criteria for
non-traditional research outputs such as data sets. In Phase 1 of the
project, 3 in-person meetings as well as 30 in-person interviews were held
October 2013-January 2014 and resulted in a June 6, 2014 white paper
outlining a list of potential action items, followed by a community input
survey in August 2014. As part of Phase 2, NISO's Business Information
Topic Committee approved a work item to advance action items through the
creation of NISO working groups to develop standards covering these areas.
Nettie Lagace, Associate Director for Programs at NISO, will provide us with
an overview and update on this initiative.

Proposal for Exchanging Serial Content (PESC):

This project is creating a NISO Recommended Practice to describe a packaging
specification to be used for exchange and archiving of serial publications.
A draft was available for public comment through December 5, 2014. The PESC
Working Group is currently reviewing the comments in order to develop a
recommendation for protocols for defining the rules to be used to create a
package of serial content. Our speakers will be Amy Kirchhoff, Archive
Service Product Manager, ITHAKA/JSTOR/Portico, and Marti Heyman, Executive
Director, Metadata Standards and Services, Global Product Technology,
Cengage Learning.
