San Fran Chronicle: Deborah Oak Cooper, a
Reclaiming witch, looks over her altar. This
weekend, Oak Cooper will celebrate Samhain.

Witches are so, middle ages, right? Midnight
rituals … communicating with the dead … spells …
summoning spirits … hexes all old school, right?

How’s that saying go, “What’s old is new and what’s new is old!”

Today’s headlines would have you think the Gospel
of Jesus Christ is old news. Remember that
Gospel originally meant “Good news” in Old
English. It was news (new information!) and it
was good! Why have I come to this conclusion? Take a look.

Samhain is back with a vengeance. Originally,
Samhain was the Celtic New Year, a pagan holiday
celebrated hundreds of years ago at the end of
the harvest, but with overtones of a day of the dead.

Today, Samhain is celebrated near Halloween, All
Saints Day, or the first frost depending on
which pagan you talk to. And it is new to so
many people who are rejecting Christianity for the pagan religion du jour.

So, why is this important to Catholics? Two reasons.

Samhain is of Satan

A Samhain Altar

A Samhain Altar

Pagans go to great lengths to lecture Christians
that pagans don’t worship the devil, but worship
nature spirits, or Mother Earth (Gaia), the
Goddess, or the universal good spirit, yada yada
yada. They practice “white magic” not “black
magic”. That terms like “God” or “Jesus Christ”
or “Satan” have no meaning in their religion;
their religion is an orange and Christianity is
an apple; you can’t compare the two.

But we know different. There is but one
God. There is but one savior, Jesus Christ.

And there is one pretender to God’s throne: Satan. The Satan who we know:

1. Wants worship owed only to God
(<http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew4.htm>Matthew 4:8-10).

8 Then the devil took him up to a very high
mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the
world in their magnificence, 9 and he said to
him, “All these I shall give to you, if you will
prostrate yourself and worship me.” 10 At this,
Jesus said to him, “Get away, Satan! It is
written: ‘The Lord, your God, shall you worship
and him alone shall you serve.’”

2. Will use any deceit to get get that worship
(<http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/john/john8.htm>John 8:44)

He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning and
does not stand in truth, because there is no
truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in
character, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

3. Disguises himself as goodness or an angel of
light
(<http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/2corinthians/2corinthians11.htm>2
Corinthians 11:14)

And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.

3. And uses this Earth as his domain (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

3 And even though our gospel is veiled, it is
veiled for those who are perishing, 4 in whose
case the god of this age has blinded the minds of
the unbelievers, so that they may not see the
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

If pagans, witches, warlocks, neopagans, earth
worshippers, etc. are to be taken at their word
that they are not of God or Jesus Christ nor
asssociated in any way with Christianity, that
leaves only Satan behind the light and false
goodness they believe they are worshiping.

Samhain is coming to your neighborhood

[]

Earlier in my lifetime, Satan had to be satisfied
working in the background, tempting people in
private a bit of hidden marital indiscretion
here a bit of thievery or murder there a black Mass whispered about.

Now, Satan is out in the open, parading
proudly. Don’t believe it. Murder out in the open? Yup, abortion.

Marital indiscretion? Paraded proudly on every
television and movie screen around.

Black Masses? Still whispered about, but coming
soon enough. The start is the rise of
neopaganism which will end bet on it in open,
outdoor worship by millions of Satan.

Don’t believe that? Below is the ‘family
friendly’,
<http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/28/HODV13LCBM.DTL>agenda

of this weekend’s San Francisco Samhain
Festivals. San Francisco was once the safe-haven
of sodomites who have now spread their agenda to
our court houses in marriage and to our public
schools in the guise of “diversity
education”. How long before our children are
taught in public schools that Satan is equivalent
to God, as gay marriage is equivalent to real marriage?

Before reading the agenda, remember God’s
admonition to the Jews (Deuteronomy 18:10-12):

10 Let there not be found among you anyone who
immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a
fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, 11
or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts
and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. 12
Anyone who does such things is an abomination to
the LORD, and because of such abominations the
LORD, your God, is driving these nations out of your way.

Coming to soon your area and schools: the
neighborhood coven and public-school
Satan. Prepare for it. Prepare your children
to stand against it. And pray to God to end all of this evil.

Take a closer look

There's no clearinghouse for all of the nation's covens, sects,
affiliations and practitioners of paganism, and Google can take
one on quite the meandering exploration. Search "spiral dance ritual"
on YouTube, and try these resources to learn more.

AncientWays.com: Ancient Ways Book Store keeps a
bulletin board and binder, and, in February, presents
the annual PantheaCon, which brings together many
practitioners of paganism in San Jose. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
4075 Telegraph Ave., Oakland (at 41st Street).
Cayacoven.org: The Come as You Are coven of many cultures is an
example of the many choices available for Bay Area pagans. This
group of 250 is celebrating Samhain on Friday night, with a potluck
Dumb Supper and ritual in Berkeley.
Cog.org: Covenant of the Goddess, a national umbrella for Wiccan
congregations and practitioners, calls Berkeley home.
Communityseed.org: Community Seed is an active pagan center in
Santa Cruz that is holding its Samhain celebration Saturday at
the city's Masonic Lodge. It has events year-round.
Reclaiming.org: Rooted in magic and Goddess worship, this San
Francisco group seems to be one of the largest and most organized.
SacredWell.com: This is one of the newer metaphysical shopping spots,
and the fledgling Web site has a blog about magic and other pagan
issues. 536 Grand Ave., Oakland.
Starhawk.org: The author and political activist is the best-known
witch in the Bay Area, and her frequently updated site contains
information and events related to all of her passions.

Prayer for Unborn Life:
O GOD OF LIFE AND LOVE, You have given us the
gift to participate with You to bring new life
into the world. But, all too often, the mother's
womb, which should be a nursery of life, becomes
instead a place of it's destruction.

Help us to remove this evil and ensure respect
for all life made in Your image and likeness,
called to fulfill its promise on this earth,
and destined to find a home with you for all eternity.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Our God, Our Savior, and Our ALL.
Amen.
