To be a Christian is to be a shareholder in the sufferings of Christ. To be a Christian is to be a co-worker with other Christians in learning how to suffer with each other, and all those woven into our lives, in the name of Love Incarnate. To be in the Church is to learn to hold each other as we learn to be held by and in the suffering love of Jesus. We literally learn to share holding Him. To be a saint, in turn, is to be an investor of those sufferings in the lives of others, that their grief may be transmuted into His joy, that their weakness may be transfigured into His strength, that their faith may be transformed into His wisdom.
