Was in the area today, so stopped by Montezuma Wetlands Complex
for a couple hours. Started at Van Dyne Sporer Road with no luck on
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. Was there for about 45 minutes or so. I did see
an immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK. Large head, chunky bird, with the head
projecting well past wings was the key field marks for this accipiter. Also
there was an adult bald eagle flying very low which is always nice and
several northern harriers coursing low over the fields. Red tailed hawks
present in good numbers too.

Next stop- Knox Marcellus Marsh
Highlights:
3 SANDHILL CRANES seen at the back edge of the pool behind the large flocks
of snow and canada geese. Did not have enough time to sort through the geese
so no brant, ross's goose or cackling for me today.

Next stop- May's Point
Highlights:
Lots of green-winged teal. had 2 blue-winged teal w/ one still in breeding
plumage.
also a few pintail.

Tschache Pool
Highlights:
raft of RUDDY DUCK (mostly winter plumage), lots of american widgeon (did not
find
eurasian today). several gadwall, one bufflehead female, and several
pied-billed grebes.
Other birder I saw there thought he had a horned grebe earlier. Something to
watch for.

Montezuma Vistor Center
Highlights
Shorebirds present in fair numbers still.
Many DUNLIN, 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS,
several LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS is what I found.
Also pintail in breeding plumage, shovelers in winter plumage, lots of
green-winged teal
among the hordes of canada geese.

Good birding to all.
