WOW am I behind on hardware, when did Cisco come out with an IPS module for the 5505? I have the 5505, bought it for my house, but need more than 2 internal VLANs for my house, Work, Voice, home internet. I can probably get the SP license for NFR cost, much cheaper than buying used equipment. I run an 871W instead for my house, so now I have a 5505 sitting around and would like to use it.
Basically, with the SP license, will it allow me to do what needs to be done for most of the ASA work, except of course for the failover? Can you shoot me the part number for the IPS module? I can get that NFR too. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Aaron O'Conner Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2011 7:58 PM To: Joe Carvalho; Antonio Dee Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_Security] Using a 5505 for practice I agree that some things don't work. If you have the money lying around, the physical equipment would always be better than using a simulator. I have an ASA5505 with a IPS module in it, and a catalyst switch. Other than that, I use GNS3 for everything else. For basic functionality, sure, GNS3 is ok. I soon found myself troubleshooting GNS3, not the labs. If you've got it working, stable and fully functional with the level of configuration we will see in the lab, you are fortunate.
