The location appliance is being phased out this year. Until you see it
removed from the blueprint it is still important but I do not believe there
will be any announcement when it occurs. Based on the response at
networkers from the Wireless program manager.

Hello,
I presume that you are saying that knowledge of the location appliance is
not necessary and important for the lab exam!!
Are you also saying Cisco will not refer to it at all during the exam?

On the IPexpert lab, the AD and certificate services will be located on the
ACS server. As for the wireless phone, that is listed as the Student's Home
phone on the topology. This is very similar to the setup for the Voice lab
rack, where the student has home phones that connect back to the rack over a
VPN connection. There will be an IP phone in the rack itself for making
calls, but there is really not an effective way of gaining the experience of
configuring the phone itself without working on the phone directly. The
Student's Home piece of the topology will also have an access point that the
student will need to configure as part of the lab over that VPN connection.

As for the location appliance, as Tyson stated, it didn't make sense to put
in equipment that will be going away shortly. There will be MSEs in the
rack once Cisco announces the move to the new version, which we presume will
support the MSEs.

As long as we stay on 4.2 code there shouldn't be too much changes.
Wonder when they move to a 6.0GD release.

Stefan

The change of removing the Location appliance and replacing it with the MSE
was announced at networkers. They said it would be phased out and they are
not making an official announcement as there are only going to be minor
changes to the lab blueprint. We will have all the equipment in the newest
form of the blueprint in our racks.

If this were true, Cisco would have to have made an announcement about it,
and the change would be 6 months from now. Check Cisco's website for the
list of lab hardware..
