One of the cheapest decent Windows options is likely to be Tamosoft CommView
for WiFi:

Something around ~$430 if they're still running the free adapter discount deal.
Otherwise $3k - $4k for AirMagnet and Omnipeek's offering.

The other option would be to try the 'flaky' Monitor Mode support that some
adapters have in Win7. Some adapters work with Microsoft Network Monitor in
Win7 but my experience hasn't been great in this regards. If you manage to find
an adapter / driver combo that works well, this may also work in Wireshark in
Win7.

Or as George suggested, Wireshark in Linux / OS X. I haven't tried this in a
Linux VM but have had no issues with other USB pass-through supported adapters
in Windows VMs. I'm sure others have tried this though.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Wireless] Wireless Packet Capture (Windows Platform)

Hello guys,

This is my first post on this list.

I want to learn a bit more about the 802.11 protocol and to do that I have
OmniPeek 6.8.2 Demo and I purchased one USB supported adapter (the D-Link
DWA-160).

But the Demo has many limitations and I'm thinking about alternatives.

The best I found (affordable) was Airpcap classic:

hp

What do you guys use in your lab preparation or on your work ? I want to be
able to use my Windows 7 x64 laptop, I know that Linux is much better and has
many options but it's not what I want.

Thanks.

Regards,
