The Paul Scherrer Institut is a centre for multi-disciplinary research
and one of the world’s leading user laboratories. With its 1200
employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss ETH
domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and
material sciences, elementary particle and astrophysics, energy and
environmental research as well as on biology and medicine.
We are looking for a
PhD Student
in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Structural Biology
*Your tasks*
Our group investigates the structure/function relationship of cell
surface receptor interactions in neuronal guidance, angiogenesis and
cell adhesion, with implications to cancer development. You will be
involved in cloning, expression, and purification of target sequences
and in the characterization of the resulting materials by biochemical
and biophysical methods, including X-ray crystallography. The project is
carried out within the structural biology group at PSI, which offers
excellent facilities for molecular biology and structural research at
its synchrotron, the Swiss Light Source. For further information on our
projects, see http://sb.web.psi.ch.
*Your profile*
You hold a Diploma/Masters or equivalent degree preferably in
Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology. Crystallographic
training is not an absolute requirement, but a plus. Practical skills in
Molecular Biology and Protein Chemistry are highly desirable and
proficiency in written and oral communication in English is required.
Being a self-motivated, organized, creative, and enthusiastic team
player is essential to ensure your success in completing your Ph.D. in
this exciting, dynamic and extensively growing field of research.
The thesis will be carried out as a graduate student of the Department
of Biology at ETH Zurich, which offers an excellent graduate students
program (for further information, see http://www.mol.biol.ethz.ch/).
*We are looking forward to your application.*
