When our lab bought a microscope last year we first got
a Digital SLR and used the SLR microscope mount. However, we also wanted
to have "live video" while using the microscope (which wasn't available on SLR
cameras at the time) so we went with a consumer digital camera (Canon S70)
and a set of MaxView adapters from Scopetronix (http://www.scopetronix.com/mvp.htm).
This is attached to our microscope via a C-mount. We had to have a
custom C-mount made so that it was alittle longer (~$150) to keep the camera in
focus but other than that its a good solution. They have adapters for lots
of digital cameras and mount types.
Another web site you may wish to check out is Martin
Microscopes (http://www.martinmicroscope.com/Digital&Video.htm).
They seem to have bundles that work well together (according to their web
site).
If you want an SLR with live view, a new one just came
out from Olympus, Evolt E330. To use that you'll need an SLR adapter/mount
for your scope. A SLR will probably give you the best picture quality but
its more expensive than the consumer cameras.
Hope this helps,
James

Subject: [ccp4bb]: microscope camera?Does anyone have suggestions for a microscope camera, to take pictures of wells? The cameras seem to range from $200-2000. Will any camera with a filter thread work? We already have a C-mount...
