POST-DOCTORAL OPPORTUNITY HAUPTMAN-WOODWARD INSTITUTE BUFFALO, NEW YORK A NIH funded post-doctoral opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual in the Laboratory of Dr. Michael Malkowski at the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute. The HWI houses the Center for High-Throughput Structural Biology (CHTSB), one of six specialized centers funded by the NIH Protein Structure Initiative tasked with developing innovative methods and technologies to facilitate the structural characterization of proteins traditionally difficult to study. The research conducted in our Laboratory and within the CHTSB focuses on the structural and functional characterization of membrane proteins, particularly those involved in lipid metabolism. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field, with a strong background in molecular biological techniques, protein expression and purification, and functional characterization of proteins. Previous experience in working with membrane proteins and/or in the field of x-ray crystallography, while not required, is a plus. The HWI is an independent non-profit research Institute that also serves as the Structural Biology Department at the University at Buffalo. The Institute is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus in downtown Buffalo. We have just moved into a new facility, which can be viewed at http://www.hwi.buffalo.edu. The HWI has a long history in methods development and structure determination through X-ray crystallography and an offers an outstanding collegial environment.
