Some weeks ago we were faced with the a similar question. We were
thinking about buying new Dell (or other) workstations with new
graphics cards. We thought that we would go with the FX1500 cards.
Although they are still available, they were not all that easy to find.
We eventually chose to get an FX3450 card (which is more powerful and fancy than the FX1500). It works well, even though I have to admit that I have only tried it with coot and not yet with O. Basically 'stereo works' - which was my fundamental question. The price of a workstation with this card was amazingly competitive, so you don't have to avoid the cards for the price. You would come to a different conclusion if you were to buy the cards separately. This was a pleasant surprise.
BTW, the Dell computers can be purchased with Redhat Enterprise Linux pre-installed. For what it is worth, I do not recommend paying for that. We thought we would save time by going that way, but it turns out to cost more time than it would have if I had built a Linux system from scratch (i.e. download from somewhere and put it together yourself). The Redhat people have not been responsive to my questions. An unpleasant surprise.

O users,
I'm looking for advice with graphics card selection. As a computer vendor I'm
limited to Dell. Dell workstations come with w/PCI Express x16 video slots. So
my favorite FX 1100 card that requires AGX8 slot would be impossible. As an
alternative card the newer FX 1500 is available. The question: Anybody out there
had successfully used this card for running "O" in stereo mode?
Thank you in advance.
