Some weeks ago we were faced with the a similar question. We were thinking about buying new Dell (or other) workstations with new graphics cards. We thought that we would go with the FX1500 cards. Although they are still available, they were not all that easy to find.
We eventually chose to get an FX3450 card (which is more powerful and fancy than the FX1500). It works well, even though I have to admit that I have only tried it with coot and not yet with O. Basically 'stereo works' - which was my fundamental question. The price of a workstation with this card was amazingly competitive, so you don't have to avoid the cards for the price. You would come to a different conclusion if you were to buy the cards separately. This was a pleasant surprise.
BTW, the Dell computers can be purchased with Redhat Enterprise Linux pre-installed. For what it is worth, I do not recommend paying for that. We thought we would save time by going that way, but it turns out to cost more time than it would have if I had built a Linux system from scratch (i.e. download from somewhere and put it together yourself). The Redhat people have not been responsive to my questions. An unpleasant surprise.

FX1400 works great for me in stereo on w/PCI Express x16 video slot.

As well as QUADRO 4 750 XGL does on AGX8 slot.

But specs for FX1500 show that it does not have 3-pin stereo-out.

If so then synchronization would become a hurdle. Not recommended.

I can tell you yes for the FX1400 card. I haven't had the FX1500 board in

my hands.

unfortunately, the Nvidia Quadro FX 1500 doesn't have the 3-pin mini-DIN

connector anymore, required for directly driving a Stereographics E2

emitter. I don't have experience with so-called "splitters" and

therefore would recommend to buy an Nvidia Quadro FX 1400, instead. The

main distributor for Quadro cards is, as far as I know, PNY (www.pny.com).

From “the modern man” ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

The specs at tha nVidia site say that the FX1500 card does NOT have a 3

pin mini-DIN stereo connector. It has two DVI-I ports and an HD-OUT port.

It would have been an excellent case for “Who wants to be a millionaire” show.

Final answer: go with FX1400 if you buy the computer from Dell.

Thanks again
