If I may make a suggestion.... Anomalous signals need to be measured with care - due to their relatively small signal. Why not initially go after the MIR case - and for first approximation - ignore the anomalous signal. The isomorphous signal should be sufficiently large as to stand out on the difference Patterson. This would at least show you if the heavy atom is
really present and worth pursuing...
