Dear Ngo, You could try additive screens, such as those sold by Hampton Research. Using an additive identified during screening, I was able to optimize conditions giving thin, fiber-like needles to get chunky plates. This was with a soluble protein, though. I don't know whether this approach will also work with a membrane protein.
