What does $set term/inquire do in your case? (use $show term/all later
and/or try editing after doing it)
sylogin.com runs it on some terminal types and not others. This may be why
the console works and other forms of login don't. If that's the case you
can edit sylogin.com to include those additional login sources in the
inequity processing (in later versions of VMS it's the TT_NOINQUIR variable
you need to change the settings for - I don't have a 5.3 machine up to
check so it may be slightly different).
