Since CDE works through nxclient, I tried the following trick. I asked nxclient not to draw a new virtual desktop
but to draw a Floating window (Configure->Settings->Floating window).
And then it crashes again!

But now I have the advantage that my desktop on which nxclient runs is still available at my LTSP-terminal.
So I can kill things and restart them. If from a gnome-terminal I kill dtsession, the rest of the
CDE programs that where open unfreeze. So I can use a running dtterm to restart dtsession.
When dtsession is started from dtterm, again it freezes all CDE applications.

So I was wondering if I can start dtsession in a way that will provide some useful debugging
information. Is there any such way? Something like strace or something more easy to read?

yours,

Antonis.

None of these errors will stop CDE from starting, so I don't think that is it. The last time someone reported trying LTSP they reported the same issues you have. No one has found a solution.

Make sure you have the languages set (check the wiki). Not setting them will cause the build errors you saw but not building the docs shouldn't stop CDE from working.

The machine is listed in /etc/hosts (the name returned by hostname).

I checked ~/.dt/startlog and ~/.dt/sessionlogs/* (after I enabled
logging via .dtprofile)

I did not see anything strange. Some fonts not found and the Help is not
available (since it did not compile anyway).
I copy the contents of these files below.

It still freezes after a few seconds.

Antonis.
