I applied the cde-lucid.diff file and recompiled. There was some 
improvement. The desktop did not freeze
as it used to. But it froze immediately when I clicked on a menu. Before 
your cde-lucid.diff patch
it would froze anyways even if I did not do anything.

Is maybe there anything else to be applied other than the cde-lucid.diff ?
If not then, OK, I will wait until we upgrade our systems to a newer 
version of Ubuntu.
