Hi

I think that the random arrangement on each hit is a good idea, but it would need to be random within each region or Country listing. Why make
people in Morocco have to search the whole list just to find their
nerarest.

Complete agreement. I think that an option for visitors to sort entries alphabetically would be useful (either a separate page, or button to sort). So that those looking for specific entries don't have the same searching
hassles.
Being able to search/sort by other criteria (Linux, Mac, or Windows
installs for instance) could help also.

...and would probably be relatively easy to implement if we had server-side scripting available (whether PHP/SQL or CGI-based). Unfortunately, Collabnet
does not support this.

No, but for merely listing the distros, it need not be on a CollabNet server. We can use other servers, as I've suggested before. I can ask the OSU OSL people.

@Louis: How about Ajax? Can that be used with the CollabNet servers?

No idea, but my guess is no.

There are other sub-projects like this one where we list many using clumsy and manual tools. I'm thinking of the consultants directory. I'd like to shift those to OSL, too, or to some more sophisticated server, as well as introduce the idea of for fee listings that would include advertisments, as well as free non-ads listings.

I'll find out about OSU OSL
