I used to have one of these (actually a 7100i). For a while using a cleaning-CD
before a write would work. Eventually I took it apart to get at the lens. Both
the top and bottom of the unit have to be removed to get at it, IIRC. I cleaned
it with alcohol & cotton buds and for a couple of writes after that it worked
OK. Thereafter I started getting coasters again - typically it would fail at
the fixation stage. Either that, or the CDs it produced would give soft errors
when read elsewhere. I'm now using a Plextor 12/10/32A :-)
