What have the kernel team done wrong?
Why are they at fault for driver design and not freecom?

Wrong address, you need to complain at the Linux kernel team. They are
responsible for the broken driver design that hits you.

USB from freecom uses a proprietary protocol. there is no supprt in Linux for it.
