It was mentioned to me that Acard SCSI-to-IDE bridge (see http://www.acard.com/eng/product/scside.html) work fine with DVD+RW drive under Linux. This means that you have very good chances to hook arbitrary MMC ATAPI unit (like those supported by cdrecord[-ProDVD] to arbitrary SCSI bus (Blade1000 has one) and get it working.
