Problem with Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-308B

I have reported this as a kernel bug 
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=416388 since my research seemed 
to suggest that that is what it is.

I am sending this message, first to make sure that wodim developers are aware of 
it and second to see if anyone has any suggestions as to ways round it. 
Currently I seem to have no way of burning .iso images to disk!
