Hello Jörg
I agree with you about not trying a kernel from source. Also, as you know,
Debian do not package cdrecord. Since this is the machine that I use for my day
to day work and since I would like to spend less rather than more time learning
about software I stay with Debian packages.
I am wondering whether you could suggest a more diagnostic approach to pin down
exactly what the problem is. In other words running tests and looking at data
rather than a try this, try that approach.
The device is an internal drive running as hdc on ide1.
