Out of the garage at 5:52am.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its off to the dead I go.........................enough

already............much to early for this train of thought................

At 12.1 miles heading west from my starting point I now have the wipers

going fast. Not a good sign to start with. By the time 19.4 miles register,
it

has stopped raining and now looks like I'm in a valley of clear. But, left
and

right of me are some extra black threatening clouds. Fortunately I see no
more

rain for the day and the fact that everything is so dry, this rain had no

effect on my destination, as 'ya would have never known it had rained at all
by

the time I started my walk.

Some things stay the same. As I'm heading west on Rt.90 I see a mammoth pile

of crushed stones. Back around 1971 when I was driving back and fourth to

Buffalo from Syracuse 5 nights a week, that pile was there then. If its the
same

stones or not doesn't matter, its the same spot. And just about each and

every night there was a trooper sitting behind the pile watching for

speeders..................

Exit at #42 and head south on Rt.14 to Geneva to Rt.14A into Penn Yan. But,

what do I have to go right by, a Tim's, so I stopped for a quick breakfast
of

Tim's, 6:48am, coffee and apple fritter."Toujours frais". Vacated Tim's

at

7:00am and continued on Rt14A to 54A on the west side of Penn Yan to
Lakeview

Cemetery at 7:20am. Quick drive through it and I think I'm going to be here

for the better part of the day.

Just walked up to the back of a headstone and noticed a large woodchuck hole

with a woodchuck sticking his head up. He was posing I guess, as he gave me

lots of time to take photos with me standing a foot or two from him. He also

had to be in the coffin as around his hole were brass corners, each with 3

tiny holes in each corner, for tacking on to the coffin corner for
decoration,

along with dirt and stones. So, I guess people aren't the only ones steeling

brass from cemeteries.....................................

Found a couple headstones I'm not familiar with. For a lack of something

better to call them, I'll call them slot stones, as I've never seen this
style

before. There's a slab, flat on the ground which is the size of a upright

headstone. On each end there is a slot in about 4" from the end and running

across close to each side. Then on each end where the two slots are, there
sits in

them two headstones, each facing out. So it looks like a big l______l .

There is another one like it along side but lies in pieces rather than

together, so I'm able to see exactly the way these are put together. Photos.

I just popped a Halls Fruit Breezer in my mouth, like a hard candy that I

carry walking in cemeteries. Funny, soon as I did, it brought up an old
memory

Nuns and Grade School. " Mr. Fleming, did you bring enough of what ever your

eating for the whole

class?"......"Nope"........."What?"......"No Sister".

" I

don't like the whole class and they have their own parents." "Bring that

candy up here, NOW! and don't let me catch you again."

"OK"................thinking..................guess I'll have to be sneakier

next time so she wont

catch me.................I was never quiet sure if those were rules or

challenges.................................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !

Finally finished this "Casket Courtyard", picked up 9 flags, 28 pots of

flowers and walked 12.8 miles and finished at 7:14pm. A 12 hour

cemetery...................

Got home at 8:58pm. But............. I had to go right by Tim's again , so

stopped for the chili deal on the way home. I wont tell you what I did to
the

waitress in Tim's. But I vaguely remember wearing my Tim Horton's Manager

shirt into the store while having the chili deal. Thanks GiGi, that
certainly

improves service and amenities are great also. :)

Another great day at tim's, I mean the dead...........................

Best

Bill........................................Oh! I just saw a yellow sticky

note stuck to my foot, must be a foot note........... In the recent past
some

people asked me about the name Penn Yan, when I mentioned I planned on going

there soon. When the area was being settled there was a dispute on what to

name the place. Finally to make everyone happy Penn Yan came about. About
half

the people were from Pennsylvania and the others northerners= Yankees. So

Penn for Pennsylvania and Yan for Yankees.
