You can guess the points where I disagree, but let me deal with your insight about this "conservative:" who is, for sure, more of a Radical Centrist than otherwise --even if he is unfamiliar with the concept. Although IF this is true, you are hereby commissioned to evangelize him for our Most Noble Cause. Come to think of it, the mainstream figures who most resemble RC-ists are often conservatives. Christina Hoff Sommers, for example, or Kevin Philips, or Charles Krauthammer, real brains and unclassifiable in most respects. Unfortunately, how does one identify with the Republican Party ? I surely cannot do so. Which, as you are well aware, is anything but an endorsement of the Democrats. To put it in such terms, speaking of the top of the ticket in all past elections ( setting aside 2008 since it is still a touchy subject and since the candidates last year were atypical in many ways ) since 1964, we have been presented with one Hobson's choice after another. To go way over the top in any literal sense, but to make a point, we have been able to vote Left for a brain damaged candidate, or vote Right for a brain dead candidate. WTH is this ? ? ? But speaking just of Republicans, even granting that the Democrats may sometimes be worse, and taking note of de facto RC-ists in GOP ranks, how does one vote for really sleazy characters at the top of the ticket, or no better than wimps, plus some lower down in the pecking order who are equally bad ? THIS is where de facto RC-ists have gravitated ? How does that make sense ? Thoughts for you reflection.
