Ladies and Gents, Before this thing becomes a long story and everyone is chipping in their ideas. We know it might sound as if we don't want to take care of the veterans of the game, by having crates of beer/soft drinks as prizes. The idea of the t-shirts is good but we will have 200 t-shirts from Zain of which we will be giving to all the teams who register, so we felt that since t-shirts would have been given out already and the gold medals to the winners, silver medals to the runners up will save as good souvenirs for anyone who does make it to the final game. Thats why we felt that as an extra incentive we give out the crates of booze/drinks......
We should also bear in mind that this is the first time, we are having some kind of sponsorship for basketball in a very long time and please ladies and gentlemen it hasn't been easy. Especially considering that basketball has been on a downslide for a very long time. Even right now many people don't even know that there is a basketball league in Lilongwe. So to manage to convince a company like Zain who have always maintained that they don't sponsor any sports to come in and sponsor a tournament which is relatively new, and to a sport like basketball which has been on the downslide for a very long time hasn't been easy. We should all look at the positive side and be happy that finally things seem to be moving in the right direction for basketball in Lilongwe/ Central Region. We as the basketball fraternity in Lilongwe and Central region should take this opportunity to take advantage to make sure that this tournament is a huge success, those of us who feel they can be of help in one way or the other, please feel free to get in touch and see where you can come in and help out so that we all make it a big success. Who knows what can happen next, we do this right, and many companies will come in and be happy to be associated with basketball. And this will go a long way in helping the profile of the game countrywide. As you all know we were failing to do anything concerning the tournament, coz there was not yet any company which was coming forward to sponsor, and with our always dry coffers it took a long time to get things moving. So I'll like to ask each one of you to spread the word around the city about the tournament, so that we have a huge crowd. We should make Zain Malawi feel that they did the right thing by coming in and sponsoring the tournament and also for any other prospective sponsor to look at coming into sponsoring basketball and help us grow bigger, and more popular. My last point will be on discipline for any sponsor to come in and STAY, we should maintain discipline at all time, please guys we have come from far, for any fracas to happen will be very detrimental to the game of basketball which we dearly love. Please guys it's the responsibility of each and every one of us to make sure that discipline is maintained at all times, be it this weekend or any other basketball activity around the central region. We are all ambassadors of the game, if we want our sport to grow we should make sure that we are well disciplined at all times. Anyways I hope I have cleared a lot of things, all I'm looking forward to right now is tussling for the beers with Bwana Kingsley come Saturday morning.
