Here's a little rant of mine from the TechTV message boards heh heh.

The Jury is in, and the Government's research has shown that video games do
not CAUSe violence as these parents and these 'newscasters' are saying.
The Surgeon General's report was much touted in the news, and
anticipated...until it came out and said that Video games do not CAUSE
violence..then suddenly you never heard a darn thing about it.
Lieberman and Ashcroft never mentioned it..the majority of Americans
probably don't even know it exists.
I wouldn't be surprised if either of these two now decide to get their own
"funded" research done on the issue, now that their beloved Surgeon General
(who's research they trust on almost all other issues) didn't say what they
wanted said.
And these results of the SG has always been the case.
The most that they have been able to determine is that watching violent
media (television/movies) increases aggression a few hours after watching
the stuff, and that in young children around 7 or 8 years of age.
It does not cause violence.
Now before your eyes light up and you smile and say,"Right! There you see?
Aggression..Aggression is violence!"
If that is true, then your entire country should stop playing American
Football. What engenders more aggression than that game? or boxing?
And it's an American pasttime...yet no one is going to say that playing
American Football CAUSES violence in the children that play the sport.
Therefore in your own mind you have logically come to the conclusion that
Aggression and Violence are two different things, and Aggression is not
necessarily a bad thing.
So then WHAT causes violence? What causes children to make the jump between
aggression,and taking a gun to take someone's life?
Why would htey want to?
Well let's see...in almost all cases the children that did this were
marginalised by their peers, picked upon and bullied...but wait no! We can't
say that!
because that is putting the blame on the people in these communities
themselves..and lord knows THEY couldn't be in any way responsible!...
*smirk*
I can't understand why sites such as TechTV seem to be intentionally
covering the facts and the research which has been done into Violence in
Video games because it does not fit the Politically Correct veneer that so
many people and organisations seem to want to push these days.
Why aren't there links to the FCC report or the Surgeon General's report? If
you want to say that all other reports were skewed and inaccurate..you have
to believe the results of these no?
But it is now Politically Correct to ignorantly bash the Video Game Industry
for producing violent material.
It is really a frightening phenomeneon that is rearing its ugly head in the
United States.
Stifle the facts and independent thought, and say what sounds good. And woe
be to anyone, or any organisation that says something Non-PC on the air, or
in print. They'll have so many "Affirmative Action" and "xxxxxx-Rights"
groups up their tails they'll never do it again.
These children were TAUGHT to shoot a gun by their parents/relatives in the
case of the Columbine kids.
They were hunters..weren't they?
That is where they learnt to handle guns.
Did Doom teach them to make Bombs too?
*snicker*
(Oh no..that was the internet..the Internet sent them bomb making
instructions automagically without them actively searching for it...oh woe
..the bad nasty Eeeevil Internet...)
Tell me..why isn't this ever mentioned when the issue of them learning to
shoot from a stupid, unrealistic, cartoonish computer game comes up?
And tell me..why all the move to censor games, instead of the one, SENSICAL
thing that the government can do to stop the sale of violent games to
children if they think it will get them more votes from the housewives and
frightened,ignorant folk (the majority of voters).
Make it illegal.
That's all they have to do.
Make it ILLEGAL to sell M rated games to children.
That's all.
No censorship is required after that point.
So unless there is more behind the drive to control what we see, hear, and
how we interact than "saving our poor children".....heh heh. Well..I'll
leave you to ponder that one.
Plus, why hasn't anyone mentioned the growing demographic for video games?
The majority now is OVER 18..i.e. Adults.
I guess if these facts were brought to the fore over and over whenever
Ashcroft and Lieberman bring their crap to the public..they'd be out of a
job.
Once more the politically correct little sheep are Baaaa-ing and going to
screw things up for the rest of us.
That's the truth.
And it is the same group that is behind this new inaccurate smokescreen of
Violent Computer games (and oh my gods..using DOOM as an example..*rolls
eyes*) being responsible for school shootings.
Oh..and you should note that "Entertainment"is ironically the driving force
behind developments in the IT industry now.
