I've been asked to recommend a good book for a beginner who wants to learn
database design & SQL... "Back in the day", I learned relational design and
SQL from SAMS "teach yourself SQL in 14 days". I liked it because it was
database-neutral; it relied on plain ANSI SQL and started with the very
basics; by learning about databases this way (instead of using graphical
tools) it kinda forces one to learn about good relational design.
Unfortunately, this book appears to be out of print. The same authors have a
new book but the reviews I've seen are less than optimal. Can anyone make
any suggestions for a vendor-independent SQL guide for a newbie?
Thanks,
Matt
