A book that I learned more about designing a db is Database Design for Mere
Mortals. I followed that up with SQL Queries for Mere Mortals. Both are
excellent and presume no previous experience with db's - but! they don't
'talk down' to the reader either. :o)

Matthew Fusfield put into words:
>I've been asked to recommend a good book for a beginner who wants to learn
>database design & SQL... "Back in the day", I learned relational design and
>SQL from SAMS "teach yourself SQL in 14 days". I liked it because it was
>database-neutral; it relied on plain ANSI SQL and started with the very
>basics; by learning about databases this way (instead of using graphical
>tools) it kinda forces one to learn about good relational design.
