I think the Guinness bitter being referred to is the bottled version. It is
quite different from the Draught found on tap and in cans. I believe its
called "Extra Stout."

Guinness bitter? I haven't heard of that one and I'm a fan of the black
stuff. Although they were doing a pale beer called Breo, but it came out
just as I cam to the US so I never got a chance to try it.
I once went on a tour of the Guinness brewery in Dublin courtesy of
Microsoft back when I used to work for them. Double-devilness there I
suppose, booze and M$, but those days are behind me now!

It has to be said though that you can't beat a pint of Guinness in Dublin,
it just doesn't travel that well!

I agree, most US beers are like drinking carbonated water. Some of the
microbrews are pretty good, though. We have a Texas beer, Shiner Boch,
that's pretty good too. It's a good substitute when imports aren't
available.

I found that my taste runs to the English/Irish brews when I started going
to Rennaisance (sp?) Faires several years ago. They offered quite a nice
selection at the faires (any Ren Faire fans here?).

I mentioned Guinness before. While I lived in the middle east, our club
offered Guinness Bitter. I liked it a lot but I can't find it in the stores.
Heck, I can't even find it mentioned on the Guinness site. Anyone know if
they still make it?

Cheers,

Chris
