Now web developers are what? Going to have to put: "If you are using Windows XP and
are unable to see the images or
navigation bar on this page, you may need to download the JAVA VM from MIcrosoft's
site here"

What do you think this means for us as Developers?

Microsoft has always set the standards on the PC..and if they are no longer including
JAVA outright, then you KNOW that 80%
of the people that use computers and upgrade, and maybe 90% of the people that buy new
computers which would be configured
with XP..aren't going to know about downloading a Vee Emm from Microsoft, and just
won't view JAVA anymore. That doesn't
signal a death knell for JAVA, but it certainly sets it back for client side
applications and as the most viable option for
Web Developers. Now they may turn to FLASH instead which is widely available to
everyone through inclusion with the latest
browsers.

Those of us in the know, will probably be able to install it, might tell a few of our
friends..but the man in the street
ain't gonna know, and will consider it to be the same as any other embedded control
out there that he needs to download
yet another plugin for, and this time not automatically, but through active effort on
his part. Also, a 'plugin' that could
weigh in at 7MB.

Bloody Hell :(
