Exactly my point. All we are dealing with are translations right now. I
don't know Hebrew so I can't comment on why certain words were used in
translation from other ones. However, I find it interesting the differences
that the translated verses have.

Sandy,
Also note that languages, especially old ones like Hebrew, were in a
context.
Our rabbi said that the meaning/interpretation of some words has changed
over time as we learn more about the context in which the language was used.

Hmm, In my edition (Stone Edition) of the Torah, the translation reads:
6:1 And it came to Pass when Man began to increase upon the ground and
daughters were born to them,
6:2 the sons of rulers saw that the daughters of man were good and they took
themselves wives from whomever they chose
6:3 And Hashem said, "My spirit shall not contend evermore concerning Man
since he is but flesh; his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
6:4 The Nephillim* were on the earth in those days - and also afterward when
the sons of rulers would consort with the daughters of man, who would bear
to them. They were the mighty who, from old, were men of devastation.
6:5 Hashem saw that the wickedness of Man was great upon the earth and that
every product of the thoughts of his heartwas but evil always
6:6 And Hashem reconsidered having made Man on earth, and he had heartfelt
sadness
6:7 And Hashem said, "I will blot out Man whom I created from the face of
the ground - from man to animal, to creeping things and to birds of the sky;
for I have reconsidered My having made them."
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of Hashem.
* 6:4 The Nehillim were giants, the same race that terrified Moses's spies
(Numbers 13:33).
Isn't it interesting how different translations change the meanings. I
don't read the original Hebrew, so I can't comment on the translation.
Maybe Mike or Judith can?

Genesis 6:4 - There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after
that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare
children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of
renown.
"when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men"
this was one of the verses i remember about it.
i think there is another reference to it though.

Genesis
6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the
earth, and daughters were born unto them,
6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and
they took them wives of all which they chose.
6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that
he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when
the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to
them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that
every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it
grieved him at his heart.
6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face
of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of
the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in
his generations, and Noah walked with God.
<!--- More --->
Job 1:6 - Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
Job 2:1 - Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present
himself before the LORD.
Job 38:7 - When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God
shouted for joy?

I see. Well..I've skimmed the bible, reading some parts more than others. I
read through it about the time I was reading
through The Lord of The Rings. I didn't draw the inference about Alien and
Angel love being prohibited from any portion of
the bible..however. I won't say that your interpretation is wrong though.

*ahem*
Anyways...the second point:
And the fact that you agree to suspend disbelief for a moment and say that
people can see the future..doesn't clash at all
with your faith, or the established 'rules' of time and the Universe as we
know it?
Nor does your belief in other Alien Races clash with your belief in the
Bible.
As I alluded in my previous post, these other alien races are to be thought
of as 'lost' and 'without direction'....
hence they must be 'saved' by humankind and shown the wonders of The Lord?

yepper.
that's just my skewed view of a few interpretations of a few verses.
not that my opinion has any merit.
but i tended to look at certain doctrines in a distorted way.
oh & on the other side, i do believe certain people can foresee parts of the
future.
hehe, to much dr. who & dune.
