Subject: <Rock Star> software - need simple drum machine.
Instead of playing another night of baseball, football or hockey this
summer... I have decided to throw on a guitar strap and learn how to become
a rock star. Well, on my own small stage in my basement anyway...
I have started to jam once a week with a couple long time friends. I'm not a
very good guitarist, but it's been fun hanging out playing a little. We are
a poet and two guitarists for now. There are a couple of guys with basses
that may come out on occasion, and we are hoping to play with a drum machine
to write and practice.
We are putting together a small set for practice (and to play at a jam
night)... probably 3/4 original with a couple covers. Covers might be songs
from Subhumans, Iggy Pop, Wire Train, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy.
I have a Pii333 w/ a cheap sound card, which I may start packing with my
guitar and other gear. I am pretty green as to what is possible and how to
set it up.
And now the question(s)
- drum machine. Not sure what free software there is. Is it worth spending a
couple bucks? any recommendations?
- setting up a keyboard controller. Do instructions come with the keyboard?
>From what I understand it might be pretty cheap - $100 or so to buy a
keyboard.
- recording - any good software to record (live) into MP3/RA/ other format.
I think that's all I need. Drum Machine. Keyboard Controller, live digital
recording.
Any links, insight or thoughts are appreciated.
Eric
