Bull. When you know somebody who simply wakes up one morning and says, "I'm
going to make the choice to do heroin today" and then gets hooked, let me
know. I'm neither condoning nor making excuses for addicts. But it's
rarely that simple. There is evidence to suggest that there are
biological/physiological predispositions to drug/alcohol abuse. You can
choose to believe that or not...but there is generally more to a person
becoming addicted to hard drugs than that person simply making a choice to
do so.
Additionally, I personally know people who have been on pain medications for
extended periods of time who did -not- break the law by forcing their
cleaning people to continue obtaining these meds for them in an illegal
manner after the prescription had ended. If people 'choose to do
heroin...and then get addicted', then Rush -chose- to continue doing
oxycotin after the prescription(s) expired. An addict is an addict.
I think your statement that they are 'different kind of people' is
ridiculously myopic.
