Lets see I'm non-religious. I married Wendy because we love each other
and want to spend  the rest of our lives together. As a graduate
student getting married cost us a lot - Wendy's income at the time was
considered into my stipend and grants.

Perhaps your question should of been what do people get married for?
Your flippant answer regarding non religious people (the financial
benefits) was somewhat offensive.
