I would like users to know at least the following before turning them loose on the net.
How to find help:
- searching with a search engine
- how to ask on usenet / fora / mailinglists (http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html)
Netiquette, and specifically:
- plain text email
- no autoreplies
- correct quoting
- be liberal in what you receive, and conservative in what you send
Computer maintenance / safety:
- configuration
- updates
- firewall
Internet is not safe:
- don't trust online identities
- common signs of deception
- where to go to find out if somebody is legit
And of course people should be required to have read at least one RFC :)
