If everyone else around him is trying to push meds on him, he may need
someone that just listens. But, beware, that's not an easy role.

If you can (if they'll talk to you), talk to his doctors. Ask them
what you can do to help. They won't be able to discuss anything he's
said to them. But, they might be willing to explain the "generalized
schizophrenic mindset" to you. Most likely, unless he has a history
already, they haven't diagnosed him yet. It takes about 6 months of
working with docs for a true diagnosis. But, they can probably give
you some info, in general, about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder,
psychosis in general, etc.

The god/demon references are fairly common, too. And, the idea of
being a prophet, etc are called "illusions of grandeur."

My neighbor is a psych nurse at the county mental health center. She
and I had a really good talk one day about how society views
psychosis. She said, "You know, in another culture, the psychotics
would be the shamans." I'd never thought of it that way, but she's
right. This might seem sacreligous, but I have to wonder how many
religions were started by a psychotic....
