No matter the cause, I think dementia is the worst type of disease for a family to have to deal with. With other diseases, at least you can communicate with the person, help them, support them, share things with them, live with them.....

With these types of diseases, the essence of the person is taken away....leaving you to care for a stranger insultingly masquerading as a loved one. It's like watching someone die all over again...every day.

  the topic but not actively researching it. I started to add also that
  this was Canada, which lags a bit behind medically, but actually the
  great-aunt that that just died lived her entire life in the US, so
  medical care rationing is not a factor.
