The official Xbox Extender from MS should be pretty sweet: will come with a
remote, dongle and software for pulling videos, music, and pics off your
computer. It's still not 100% clear if you have to have the Media Center
Edition of XP or just any old flavor of XP on your PC, but it would be
really dumb not to offer this product to the majority, rather than the
minority. It's also unclear what file formats it will actually support.
It's supposed to be out in the next couple of months.
The other option you have right now with the Xbox is to slap a modchip in
your xbox, and install the "open-source" Xbox Media Center software:

For less than ~$150 you could buy a used xbox and a modchip and pull almost
every known AV file format off of your pc. Just an FYI, if you mod your
xbox, you won't be able to use it on Live. For this reason, I bought an
extra when the prices dropped and I have it running XMC right now and the
software is extremely polished for being hackerware/freeware. The only real
chink in it's armor is that it can't parse menus from DVDs stored on your
pc's hard-drive. It will play the movies, but not the menus. And they add
features and fix bugs almost weekly.
