I was there for both of mine. actually my (then four year old) son was there
was there for the birth of his sister. she came out much quicker than we
thought she would.  ;^)

We had both of ours at Mass General in Boston - very nice.  My wife was
preeclampsic for both of them so natural wasn't an option (and actually
having more isn't an option).  My son's labor went a long time and he got a
full dose of the medication my wife was on (Magnesium Sulfate, I believe) -
he spent the first night in the ICU on a respirator but was actually
perfectly fine.

My daughter came so quickly that she was load and kicking when born, but
"too small" by a smidge so she was labeled "premature" and spent two nights
in the ICU as well.  She was also perfectly fine however (and still small
for her age).

I didn't cut any cords. in the first case he wasn't breathing so the doctors
took over quickly and in the second I was just too flustered with my son in
the room.

It's rather heartbreaking to be sitting in the ICU in that situation. you
look at the distraught parents around you and simply can't help but feeling
guilty somehow that you're kid is healthy.

I was for all three of mine, and I cut their cords.  It's indescribable how
you feel when you're the very first thing your child sees in this world.
