> What makes you think any country would let them form a new
government in Saudi Arabia?

They're not looking for permission.  They're planning the same thing
in Saudi Arabia as they did in Afghanistan - in fact there's many
quotes from Mr. Bin Laden bragging about how he defeated the "godless
imperialists" which caused the break of the USSR.  He thinks he can do
the same thing with the US.  Looking at our finances he may not be far
off, but that's another issue.

Mr. Bin Laden has 1.6 Billion people (only includes the Middle East,
not Russia or elsewhere) to recruit from and 65% openly support him.
No military in the world will be able to stop that movement if it
decides to move.  It's quite similar to the Russian Revolution and
there's even a King in Saudi Arabia.

> Since then they've attacked Spain and Russia.

This is the problem with "on-faith" leadership.  It manipulates people
via emotion rather than appealing to their logic.

When this is combined with a decentralized celluar structure you can
end up with "unsanctioned" or "rogue" actions.  People get so worked
up that they take actions the leadership may not approve of.  For
example, are abortion snipers that murder doctors acting on orders of
the anti-abortion leadership?

The point being we have no idea whether those attacks were coordinated
by Al Queda leadership or not.  Hiroo Onoda surrendered 29 years after
the end of World War II and continued his "terrorism", killing many,
up until his surrender.

> [Do] you think any government with ties to al Qaeda would have a chance anywhere in the world now?

Yes, I could name about 20 off of the top of my head with Saudi Arabia
at the top of the list.

> You really think these extremists [care] about Mecca?

Yes, if you read the last 10 years of Mr. Bin Laden's ranting, it's
about all he's talked about.  I also hear there's quite a gathering
there once a year.

> you should read up on Hitler.

I have - Hitler used the same techniques to mobilze his population,
however it was nationalism over religion.  The problem here is that,
without Hitler, the movement wouldn't have caught steam.  This
movement doesn't count on Mr. Bin Laden to lead it.
