Thanks - the "blip" is annoying, but seems an artifact of the toolkit I'm
using (although it's the best I've found I'm still not in love with it).
Since it doesn't seem to affect functionality I'm chalking it up as a "low
risk" bug for now.

The speed is (I hope!) mostly due to the fact that I'm serving the dev site
via my home computer.  Like most broadband I get great download speeds but
anemic upload speeds.

I get the same blip with the most recent version of Firefox on an XP
system. Also the site took a long time to load.
